The geraldton AKA Cup was run over the weekend, Strong winds made for some very close racing with the wind creating havoc at the back of the track over the jumps. Putting the tents up in the wind was just as challenging most having to use star droppers to help hold them down...
Some great racing over the weekend every one enjoyed themselves. Qualifers were started at 2'ish and ran into the night with the lights, Sunday morning saw the semi's start early and finalised the places for the main. Truggy main was first with Peter Thompson, Murray Beattie and Josh Pain all swapping positions until Josh had a servo go in the steering and made way for Peter to take the lead, Murray made a late come back and tried to take the win but Peter held on to take the win.
3rd Mark Garraway(Losi) 1st Peter Thompson(zo1t) 3rd Murray Beatie(mugen)
Buggy was the last final and Craig taking a early lead, Logan, Dave, Martain, Josh were all swapping positions till Logan taking second and Dave grabbing 3rd.
David sims 3rd(serpent) Craig Laughton 1st(Losi) Logan Bruecher 2nd(Mugen)
After a full on weekend of racing it was time to pack up and hit the road most opted to drive to Dongra and fill up and get a bite to eat before the drive home. I think Ahmad was enjoying his ice cream in the picture..... :)
Logan was going to tackle the Road house special burger (the kitchen sink)when asked how big it was this was the answer or was it how far it was behind Craig in the final....
The AKA Tyres WA championships was a feast of excellent racing. We are blessed to have so many of Australia's top drivers resident at our club, and racing against this caliber of driver can't help but make us mere mortal drivers improve. And that showed this weekend, with many drivers putting in impressive performances. Andrew Foord travelled over from Sth Australia, and was rewarded for his efforts with a trophy. Team Hobao picked up two, with Josh Taylor also collecting some silverware, but super-consistent Martin Wolhuter took out top spot with his Hong Nor. Shane Angelinovch rose up through the ranks to finish an impressive 4th with his Mugen.
Young Jaicob Mann decided to take up truggy this year, and in his first major meeting with his Xray, he won the 45min main final with a very consistent drive. Trevor Whiting stayed on his tail the whole race, but wasn't able to chase him down. Murray Beattie held 3rd place for some time before mechanical failure, allowing several drivers to fight it our for this spot. Gennaro Caputti managed to head off Ian Silfo and Darren Gandy, the latter pushing hard to make up ground after a breakdown early on in the race.
Buggy - 1st Martin Wolhuter (Hong Nor); 2nd Josh Taylor (Hobao); 3rd Andrew Foord (Hobao)
Team Hobao adds new West Australian driver for 2010
The question everyone has been asking is finally answered. Team Hobao Australia has a new driver on the team for 2010 - West Australian Josh Pain.
After another sucessful year with Team Associated (see news article below), Josh decided it was time for a change and will be working with the current Hobao team members in 2010 to do even better with the Hyper 9 (and the new truggy when it is released). Josh says that he is "looking forward to being part of Team hobao and putting the car in the winners circle here in Australia".
Josh will see out the rest of the 2009 season with his trusty RC8b, taking on the Hyper 9 officially at the start of the 2010 season.
